My reading goal for 2022 was to read ten books and I managed to hit this target just two days before the end of the year. Whilst I was very happy to have hit my goal, I would’ve liked to have read more books or at least reached the big ten a bit earlier on in the year. As is the way with retrospect, I know that, despite having a very busy and full-on year, I definitely didn’t prioritise reading as much as I should’ve, and I let time slip away from me by scrolling on social media for an endless number of hours. Therefore, this year I hope to really prioritise reading especially just before going to sleep. To do that, I have written by TBR list for 2023.
My goal this year is going to be 15 books, with an absolute minimum requirement of ten. This then lets me have a bit of leeway in case things get very hectic! I have so many books that I would love to buy, but I equally have far too many books at home that I have not yet read. So, my focus is going to be on reading all of the books I already have before buying new ones.
Without further ado, here is my current TBR list for 2023. I’m sure I will add other books along the way, but here is something to start me off!
- Brexit Romance by Clémentine Beauvais (French)
- Le Rouge et le Noir by Stendhal (French)
- Zazie dans le métro by Raymond Queneau (French)
- Beloved by Toni Morrison (English)
- Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison (English)
- This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald (English)
- Becoming by Michelle Obama (English)
- The Portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (English)
- Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (English)
- A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking (English)
As you can see, most of these books are classics of either French or English literature and being very honest, most of them are books that I bought a very long time ago and have never got round to reading. Or if I did get round to reading them, I read a few chapters and then never finished….(I’m very guilty of doing this!). But since my intention for 2023 is to ‘get things done’, I decided that this year is the perfect year to finally read all of the books that have been sat on my shelves for years so that I can buy the new books I desperately want to buy!
I’m starting off with number one on the list, Brexit Romance, which was gifted to me by one of my wonderful French friends who thought that it was hilarious and who likes to constantly remind me of the horrors of Brexit… I can’t wait to get started!
Rendez-vous here on the 31st December 2023 to see whether or not I hit my goal.
