Spooky season is here! And what better way for your pupils to learn vocabulary to do with Halloween than with these Halloween Dominoes.
I enjoy teaching Halloween-themed classes because they can really be adapted for different ages and abilities. You can do vocabulary-based activities with younger pupils or horror film analyses for older pupils.
Something a colleague of mine once did was a Halloween themed scavenger hunt. It was really fun and the pupils learnt and used a range of vocabulary.
From experience, pupils learn the best when they are having fun. To me, this is more often than not through games. Dominoes is a really basic game that even the youngest of pupils can play and so it was logical for me to create Halloween dominoes.
Dominoes can also be played in multiple ways. There is the traditional way of matching the image to the word. Then, pupils can test themselves by guessing the word from the image without looking at the other dominoes. They can translate the words into their native language. Or they can be used for spelling practice when played as a group. They can also be played competitively between groups to see who can complete them first.
