God Save the King or God Bless America? If you want to test your pupils on their knowledge of English vocabulary, then try these British vs American English Dominoes!
In the Anglophone world, native speakers are confronted with both British and American English on a daily basis. Learning what these words mean can be very helpful when trying to understand news or other authentic sources. For more advanced pupils, it is important to be consistent with whichever type of English you have chosen. These dominoes can help consolidate any vocabulary inconsistencies!
How to play
Just like my other domino sets, these ones work in exactly the same way. However, instead of matching the vocabulary word to an image, pupils have to match the British term with the American term.
On each domino there is the flag of the corresponding country to make it clearer for pupils who are being introduced to this vocabulary. If your pupils are already familiar with it, why not try hiding the flags and asking them to decide if the term is British or American?
Pupils can use these dominoes to test themselves at home. Or they can test their fellow classmates at the end of a lesson! There are many different ways to play dominoes which I have explained on some of my other domino posts.
Let me know in the comments if you prefer to use British or American English. What do your pupils prefer?
You can find all of my resources on my TPT store: Miss Bonheur.
Come back next week for a new post on something teaching or life related!
