For our second Word of the Week, we have the word:
This word actually kind of follows on from our first Word of the Week since “ecstatic” means that you are very happy and full of excitement.
I feel like we hear this word less and less, with people often saying things like “very/so happy”, “really excited” etc, instead. But ecstatic not only explains the same concept in simply one word, it is also quite nice to say!
The earliest evidence of the word “ecstatic” is in a poem written by famous poet John Milton, whose most well-known work is his epic poem Paradise Lost. So it most definitely isn’t a modern word! It is also a word that is borrowed from Greek.
With everything that is going on in the world at the moment, it is hard to be happy let alone ecstatic. But it is still important to try and find things to be ecstatic about so that we keep going. Maybe you are ecstatic about having your morning coffee. Or maybe you are ecstatic about going to see your favourite team play a match. Whatever it is, we need to find the positivity in our everyday lives and try to share this with others. I know that I am ecstatic about the fact that it’s Monday and that means it’s a new week! I was also ecstatic to find a variety of chocolate cookies on the table when I arrived at work this morning.
Why not make a list of all of the things you were ecstatic about today? Focus on the small things as well as the big things. Aim for at least 5 things and then feel free to share your list in the comments below.
Have you heard of this word before? Let me know in the comments.
Come back next week for another Word of the Week.
Hey people!!!!!
Good mood and good luck to everyone!!!!!
